Freedom begins with one simple fact: tomorrow is a concept. It is a word we use to refer to the day after today that does not actually exist. Tomorrow is what we can imagine, but it is not what we can experience in the present.
The rotation of the Earth is a fact, and so is our spinning with it as residents. Predicting that the Earth will continue to rotate, hence the Sun rising again, is both logical and wise. But, it is nonetheless a prediction. Tomorrow is in our head, not in our physical presence.
From birth to death, our brain spends its entire life living inside the eternal darkness: our skull. To survive, it needs to make sense of the signals from sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch — what they mean and what will happen next. This process, of our brain using its past experience to predict what the incoming sensory signals will be before their arrival, forms the basis of the world in which we live — a vivid tale that isn't always true or even real.
What we imagine to be real is what we imagined. A free person sees that it is an illusion of their brain, and thus does not insist on the authenticity of the mirage. A prisoner, however, sees only prison, forged by the certainty of the stories they know and the conclusions they have, and insists it is real and that it is true.
Tomorrow is just a thought. See the illusion. Be a free person. Be a rebel.
